04/12/18 DRAWN TO DOOM
BY NATURE, BY COMMON GRACE, CHILDREN SEEK LIGHT.
They normally fear and avoid darkness. The darkness enshrouds dangers, mysteries, snares, obstacles, enemies. This is a healthy mindset, provided it does not override knowledge, understanding, wisdom and faith. The BOOGIE MAN is real, in some sense of the word.
BUT AS A CHILD GETS OLDER, HE/SHE GETS BOLDER.
Of course this is good in some ways, but in other areas it is destructive, especially when it leads them to moving from the light of truth, love, God, salvation, into the thickening shades of pride and rebellion.
SADLY, YOUTHFUL FLIRTATION WITH DARKNESS BECOMES A LIFELONG RELATIONSHIP.
The form of darkness may change, but the darkness remains the same. As youths move into pride, self assertion, disrespect for authority and Christian standards they become staunchly determined to see life from their own peculiar viewpoint and determined to withstand and offend the spiritual establishment, sometimes thinking that they are pleasing God.
IF IT WAS A PASSING FAD, THAT WOULD BE BAD ENOUGH.
But it becomes a lifelong trend, from which that person may never return. They turn from, and eventually cut off, the only hope they will ever have for escaping the death grip of sin's night.
THE MORE THAT THE RESCUERS TRY TO FREE THE HEADSTRONG VICTIM, the more tightly the volunteer victim holds on to the very weight of darkness that is dragging him to eternal doom and nether gloom.
IF HE IS NOT BEYOND HOPE at this point, he is fast approaching the point of no return.
DEAR LORD, bring him/her back to their childhood faith, humility, love, submission.
