The phrase, "the law of" is attached to several ideas. I will share a little study I am working on, which should be a blessing to you. But first I will give a disclaimer.

Neither is anyone saved if they are willful violators of the rule of God in their lives.
In other words, it is not our own righteousness that saves us from sin, but it is our sin that separates us from God.
Christ has made a lawful atonement for the sins of the world. Whoever will trust in His death and resurrection, rather than in his/her own inherent righteousness or good works (which actually do not exist), shall be saved. SAVED FROM SIN.
By being saved from sin, we are not saved so that we may continue in sin, but rather that we should live in righteousness and holiness all the days of our lives.
The same self abandoning, Christ trusting faith that brings us into a right relationship with God is the faith by which we live, follow, walk daily in a right relationship with God.
One difference in initial saving faith and daily saving faith is that initial saving faith delivers us from the sin of our past and the daily saving faith leads us not into temptation, but delivers us from evil.
Obedient faith is saving faith.
My inherent goodness does not save me from the penalty, pollution and power of sin. (no inherent goodness, remember?)
It is God working in me and working into me His righteousness that saves me from sin.
Sin separates people from God and God separates people from their sins and sin.
The person who never believes in Christ and the person who abandons Christ are both lost.
God gave us law in order for us to see our sin and our separation and He gave us His Son in order to save us from our sin and separation.
Laws do not save us, but the laws of God lead us to our Savior.
This is why Paul said that the law, the commandment, the rule of God is not sin, but that it is good, just, holy and spiritual.
NOW, back to my post.
Law (especially the law of God) has a very important place in the Scriptures. There are various sets or catagories of laws mentioned in the Bible. I have listed over 40 different designations. Some of these catagories overlap and are the same in substance, but different in designation, especially the ones referring to the law of God. I did not list the verses that are designated as commandments, statutes, precepts, testimonies or judgments. I did not go back to the Hebrew or Greek. It is a simple study but I personally have been encouraged and enlightened as I meditated on these thoughts. I do not give explanations.
